Former Student Athlete supports colleges, athletic departments, collectives, and organizations that are responsible for guiding athletes through NIL opportunities and the broader realities of life beyond sports. While NIL has created meaningful earning potential for some athletes, it has also introduced complexity, pressure, and risk that many athletes are not prepared to manage on their own.
Our work focuses on education, long-term thinking, and transition readiness. We help athletes understand how NIL fits into a bigger picture that includes personal development, career planning, financial literacy, mental well-being, and identity beyond the sport.
Our Approach
Former Student Athlete provides practical, real-world education that complements existing NIL compliance and support efforts. We do not replace institutional programs. We strengthen them by addressing the areas athletes often struggle with once the season ends or eligibility expires.
Our programs are designed to be accessible, relatable, and grounded in lived athlete experience. The goal is not to overwhelm athletes with technical information, but to help them develop awareness, discipline, and decision-making skills that serve them long after NIL income or competition ends.
Program Areas
We support NIL and athlete development initiatives through education on financial fundamentals, including budgeting, taxes, saving, and long-term planning. We address career readiness by helping athletes think about professional identity, transferable skills, and post-sport pathways. We also focus on mental resilience, routine changes, and the emotional side of transition that often goes unspoken in traditional programming.
For athletes who earn NIL income, we provide context around responsibility, sustainability, and common pitfalls. For athletes who do not receive NIL compensation, we emphasize that preparation for life after sports is still essential and valuable.
Who We Work With
Former Student Athlete works with universities, athletic departments, NIL collectives, athlete development offices, and third-party support organizations. We collaborate with compliance teams, academic support staff, and leadership to ensure programming aligns with institutional values and athlete well-being.
Our programs are appropriate for athletes across all divisions and sports and can be tailored for incoming athletes, upperclassmen, or those approaching graduation.
Formats and Delivery
Support may include workshops, speaking engagements, educational series, written resources, digital content, and ongoing programming support. We work with partners to determine the most effective format based on audience size, timing, and institutional goals.
Why Former Student Athlete
Former Student Athlete is built by a former college football team captain who understands both the athlete mindset and the realities of transition. Our perspective bridges athletics, education, and life planning, helping athletes think beyond the immediate moment and prepare for what comes next.
We believe NIL education should not stop at compliance. It should help athletes build perspective, confidence, and long-term stability.
